Christiane Sand
(27 Dec 1956-19 Feb 2017)
We are very sad to announce that Christiane Sand, dear friend and member of the Basketry Collective, lost her long battle to cancer in February 2017.
She was fascinated and intrigued by the plants growing around her – in her garden, her allotment, and when she was on holiday or visiting friends and family –and how she could use them for basketry projects. She enjoyed the process of discovery of how the different materials behave and how she could make them work in a basketry context: for example a very open basket made by a woody looking creeper, and a delicate less open, but still spacious basket made from long pendulous florescences.
